Biography
Martin Luther was born on November 10, 1843, in Eisleben. His father was a very successful miner. Luther was the oldest among his three brothers, and four sisters. He was a German monk, professor, Father of Protestant faith, and church reformer who began the reformation in the early sixteenth century. Luther's parents raised him as a Roman Catholic, and he was an academic achiever.
Pope Leo X needed money to build the St. Peter's Basilica, so they started selling indulgences. Angry, Luther penned 95 statements against the practice of selling indulgences. On October 13, 1517, he nailed his 95 Thesis to the door of the castle church in Wittenburg.
On October 10, 1520, Luther received a papal bull (official proclamation from the Pope). Luther through the papal bull into a bonfire. He was officially excommunicated by the pope on January 3, 1521. His rapid decline in health caused him to rely more and more on his colleague, but before he died he completed the Bible in German. Luther died on February 18, 1546, at the age of 62 in his hometown of Eisleben.
