Martin Luther's Contemporary Impact
Martin Luther had a very great impact on the people and church of his time.
Below are some ways of how and why he had an impact on the people and the church:
One way Martin Luther had an impact was through his study of the Bible. He wanted to interrpret the Bible and was successful. Once Luther had arrived at his understanding of salvation, through the Bible, the Bible became for Luther, as for all other Protestants, the only source of religious truth. When the Protestants read his interrpreted Bible, it gave them the sense of empowerment, and they felt liberated. It also gave people power, intelligence, and a better relationship with God. It weakened the power of the church. Luther made the Bible available to many people. And by interrpreting the Bible, he influenced the modern German language and German nationalism.
Luther's religious movement became a revolution. He was able to gain the support of many of the German rulers among the numerous states that made up the Holy Roman Empire. Luther also set up new religious services to replace the Catholic Mass. So he created a new place for people to worship.
The doctrine developed by Luther soon became known as Lutheranism. Lutheranism was known as the first Protestant faith. Luther impacted the church by creating a new church and religion. By his religious movement, his churches became known as Lutheran churches. He had a very big influence on religion throughout Europe.
Martin Luther also created the idea of justification (being made right before God). He came to this through the study of the Bible. He believed that a person can not be saved through good works alone, but have to have faith in God and he will grant you salvation. This idea gave people a better relationship with God and it influenced more people to come to church.
